Week of oct 21-25
Monday, Oct 21
After today's warm up where we reviewed the indirect pronouns En & Y about which there will be a test on Friday. Please encourage your child to start attending tutoring and Haw Hour on Thursday until the test on Friday. Students later received a rubric on the imperfect. Groups can either create a song, a poem, or any other tool to present the imperfect. Groups are to include how the imperfect is formed, its endings, mention of the verb Etre as the only irregular verb in the imperfect, and the acronym HAD TO SEW (This is when one uses the imperfect). Most groups accomplished a lot today as this task is due on Wednesday in class.
Tuesday, Oct 22
Today, prior to students dividing into their respective group to work on their imperfect song for tomorrow's presentation, we reviewed the indirect object pronouns Y & En on which there will be a test on Friday. Students were given a sheet for homework that is due on Thursday. This sheet is extremely important as it will assist students with doing well on the test. We did the first 4 questions in class and students are to complete the rest. Please remind your child to go over their script for tomorrow's imperfect presentation.
Wednesday, Oct 23
After a short review on the pronouns En & Y for warm up, several groups presented their imperfect created tool (songs/poems) and some were outstanding. Tomorrow students will practice writing a story in which they will have to use the pronouns En &Y so as to be ready for Friday's object pronouns test.
Thursday, Oct 24
After todays warm up on object pronouns and relative pronouns, students started tracing their selected painting. They will continue tracing tomorrow and some groups may even start painting.

Although I was absent today, I left work that would help students review for the retake of last Friday's object pronouns test. As a matter of fact, students have to complete an exercise for homework for tomorrow. The sheet is also excellent for reviewing. Students may not even be aware of this change. I had left a message with the sub that the retake would take place tomorrow. However, I am choosing to give it instead on Wednesday so as to give some students the opportunity to attend tutoring tomorrow morning, afternoon, and Wednesday morning.
Tuesday, Oct 15
Today we spent time in class reviewing object pronouns for tomorrow's test. We took questions and answered them. Students were given back the homework so as to be able to study and add the English meaning for each object pronoun (Direct & indirect) for tomorrow's test. Later students worked in pairs to write a story that must include both direct/indirect object pronouns, negatives, and double pronouns which is a way to review for tomorrow's test since these grammar points are on the test. We also had a great tutoring session after school and I am ready to hold another session tomorrow.
Wednesday, Oct 16
We again had a nice tutoring session this morning while we also reviewed briefly in class prior to the test. Tomorrow we will work on writing, the imperfect, and the indirect En & Y. Students still have a vocabulary test (8A) on Friday.
Thursday, Oct 17
Today, after completing the warm up, students learned about the imperfect tense and then completed the writing assignment from yesterday. Those completed the writing, started studying the notes, such as the endings, the only irregular verb, to the imperfect. They also reviewed how the imperfect is formed and the many ways it is used. Please remind your child to study for the vocabulary (8A) test.
Week of oct 7-11
Monday, Oct 7
After today's warm up, students reviewed direct (le, la, les, l', me, te, nous, vous) and indirect (me, te, nous, vous, me) object pronouns including En &Y. Students then received two handout exercises start in class and complete for homework. These exercises will count for four homework grades. The purpose of this homework is to help students review for Friday's test, which is considered to be the most difficult one in French II as students were reminded. I have encouraged students to either attend tutoring or Hawk Hour to review with me. The 2nd reason for completing the homework and turning tomorrow is so that I can grade and return it to students on Wednesday since they will not be in my class on Thursday.
Tuesday, Oct 8
After today's warm up, the remaining groups presented their skit. Students worked in pairs to complete two different exercises (A&B) where one partner will ask questions from side A and then the other partner will ask questions from side B. Each partner had to use object pronouns in their answers. The purpose of this exercise was to help students review for Friday's object pronouns test. Students took notes and pictures as a way to help them review, for I had made several notes on the board. Students will have another opportunity tomorrow to review. Please encourage your child to attend tutoring either in the morning or afternoon. Students can also attend Hawk Hour on Thursday or tutoring on Friday morning. Tomorrow they will have a short quiz as a way to help students prepare for Friday's test. Tomorrow I will simply ask them for the direct object pronouns (me, te, nous, vous, le, la, les, l') and indirect object pronouns (lui, leur, nous, vousl, me, te). Without a knowledge of these pronouns, students will not do well on Friday's test.
Wednesday, Oct 9
Since I will not have any students in class tomorrow, please remind your child to study and review for Friday's object pronouns test. Although I have repeated it many time to students, please remind your child that the pronouns En & Y will not be on Friday's test. Students will need know the object pronouns, their placement in front of both a present tense verb and an auxiliary. Students will also need to review double object pronouns and which one comes first, the direct or the indirect? It is worth mentioning that I am prepared to offer tutoring on Friday morning starting at 7:30 a.m.

Monday, Sept 16
After today's warm up, students were allowed some to review the Dr. & Mrs. Vandertramp verbs for today's test. After the test, in order to introduce the new unit "En Vacances," students practiced the new vocabulary on www.vhlcentral.com. To practice their listening skills, students also watched a video on the same site and then completed an exercise in which they had to put events in chronological order. There will be a vocabulary (7A) test on Thursday.
Regarding vhlcentral assignments, some students are very loyal to completing such assignments. However, there are others who are making the choice of not completing them. I try to grant students class time to work on these assignments; however, students should make the effort to also work at home. For example, most students completed today's assignments. Therefore those who did not, must complete the assignments by 11:59 p.m. tonight.
I am going to be away on a school trip to France, Spain, and Italy this Wednesday morning. I do not foresee any problems in the class during my absence, I would still encourage you to talk to your daughter or son about the need to behave well and show respect to the substitute on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. I reminded students today that there will be consequences for behavior unbecoming of Mr. Joseph's French students.
Have a wonderful afternoon.
Wednesday, Sept 18
I was not in class to share my observations with you. However, students were to accomplish two things today: First, they were to complete an irregular verb handout and turn it in; second, they were to record a dialogue and email it to me. I have received some of the dialogues. Tomorrow, students will receive a handout for cultural reading and learning. They will need to read both sides and answer the comprehension questions. After completing the assignments, students will get a computer to create a Quizlet for the second vocabulary test on Thursday, September 3rd. It is worth mentioning that the same procedure will be repeated on Friday. Please remind your child to both study for tomorrow's vocabulary test and complete the assigned activities. Both tomorrow's and Friday's assignments will be graded.
I would like to apologize in advance if I do not get to communicate with you past today since we are ready to get on the plane for Spain in about 30 minutes. However, I will do my utmost to send you reminders tomorrow.
Have a wonderful evening.

PowperPoint lesson on perfect tense.
Thursday, 22
Open House is tonight and I look forward to seeing you all.
Today, after the warm up, students learned how to form the perfect tense with the auxiliary Être. They learned that once you use the auxiliary Etre, there should be agreement meaning if the subject is feminine, add E and the subject is plural, add S. For example, They arrived=Elles sont arrivées. After completing an exercise, students used the computers to practice both demonstrative adjectives and perfect tense with Avoir. There is a homework on perfect tense that is due tomorrow. On the back of the homework are some information that are very helpful.
